Historic Boutique Hotel Features Tallahassee Favorites

Hotel Duval Strengthens Community Connections Through Food and Beverage Changes

(Tallahassee, FL) Seven years ago, Hotel Duval, an Autograph Collection property, was resurrected as the original building’s namesake from the 1951 place to “see and be seen.” The hotel has made changes to better connect with and feature Tallahassee. The hotel now offers Sunday Brunch, cocktail menus and coffee service that feature local and regional farmers and merchants.

“We want Hotel Duval guests to experience more of what the area offers. My staff and I all live here and are proud of what Tallahassee has to offer. In 2015, XX% of our guests were business travelers. Local foods tend to create strong connections to an area’s culture very quickly. We wanted our out-of-town guests to appreciate a part of what makes Tallahassee so special, while also offering our neighborhood friends a choice of local and creative food and beverage options,” said Hotel Duval General Manager, John McCarroll.

McCarroll, Executive Chef Nik DelMonego, and the Food and Beverage Manager Stephen Whitson, worked with Orchard Pond Organics, Bradley’s Country Store, Lucky Goat Coffee, Sweet Grass Dairy, and local sources of Gulf-caught Lionfish. These locally-sourced products and foods were fabricated into tasty dishes and delicious beverages throughout each of the areas of the hotel that are open to both hotel guests and the public.

McCarrol and DelMonego worked with their head mixologist to create a new Sunday Brunch food and cocktail menu with Southern and Tallahassee favorites taken to a new level.

The Pan Seared Lionfish, a recently invasive threat to the Gulf’s ecosystem, has been freshly caught in the Gulf of Mexico and prepared delectably with a serving of Bradley’s sausage and cheese grits and quick skillet greens. The Fried Chicken & Johnny Cakes is an exquisite twist on Tallahassee’s favorite brunch dish. DelMonego’s version is brine and buttermilk marinated chicken breast atop pan-fried cornbread pancakes with a house-made spicy maple honey-butter drizzle.

Those who brunch for the cocktails have a selection of unique eye-openers to choose from; including the staff’s favorite, the Tamatillo Bloody Mary, delivering verde salsa flavors into a fresh and tangier take on the typically-red brunch favorite. Hotel Duval Sunday Brunch – is served from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The hotel’s coffee and food on-the-go shop, previously LeRoc Bistro, changed its name to LeRoc Lounge; the name of the 1951 Hotel Duval’s cocktail lounge. Whitson recently partnered with Lucky Goat to get each LeRoc server fully educated and trained on the local company’s products and processes of the unique cold-brewed coffee. Hotel Duval is the first hospitality group to serve their coffee outside of a Lucky Goat store. “We wanted to offer our downtown neighbors Lucky Goat in walking distance, and our hotel guests a local favorite,” explained Whitson. LeRoc Lounge opens at 6:30 a.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. weekends, and closes at 2 p.m. throughout the week.

Level 8 Lounge, the first roof-top bar and balcony in the region, offers hand-crafted cocktail features six nights of the week. This summer, they launched a 4 to 7 p.m. happy hour to provide local professionals a beautiful, comfortable place to watch the sun set on downtown Tallahassee while enjoying reasonably priced drink and food specials. Level 8 Lounge is open from 4 p.m. until midnight Sunday through Tuesday, and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Shula’s 347 Grill, one of the Shula’s Steak House dining concepts, instills top quality from their SHULA CUT® Premium Black Angus Beef® and extensive wine selection to their elite staff. Shula’s 347 Grill–Tallahassee is open for dinner from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and closes at 10 p.m. the remainder of the week.
